Medical
Office Software for the Macintosh and Windows!
Here are some really
good reasons to select PracticeMaker®!
System Requirements...
Regardless of the platform these requirements are absolute...
- The host or server computer
MUST not use wireless networking. It must be hard wired to
your network and you must use a network "switch" not just a
hub. Most cable/DSL routers have integrated switches.
- If you are using the software peer-to-peer
the host machine MUST have at least 256 MB of RAM and the hard drive MUST be
7200 RPM with an 8MB cache. Slower 5400 RPM drives are absolutely NOT
acceptable. It is up to the user to determine the correct configuration of
their own computers.
- Workstations can be wireless IF server
software is used, otherwise they MUST be hard wired to the
network. Hard wiring is the "defacto standard" for the medical
environment. If using wireless, you must employ 128 bit encryption!
- The user must be familiar with the
operating system of their computers. The user must know how to copy files,
find files and use the file management system on their computer. For those
users not familiar please take a computer course as our training does not
include training on how to use a computer.
- It is perfectly OK to use a Windows Server
in a Macintosh environment and vice versa. The software is cross platform
compatible!
Macintosh
The bottom line is we love with the Macintosh platform. Any Macintosh
Computer can run our server software. We recommended either OS 10.3.9 or any
current version of OS 10.4.x.
- If employing our server software, using
regular OS X is OK. It is NOT necessary to use OS X Server. If you are using
OS 9, this is perfectly fine. We have MANY clients running server
software using older iMacs with OS 9.1. In this enviroment,
FileMaker Pro Server 5.5 MUST be the only application running and must
always be the foremost application.
- If you are not using server software, the host computer must have
256 MB of RAM and a 7200 RPM hard drive with 8MB cache. FileMaker Pro must also
be installed on the server computer for running updates.
- Workstations can use OS 8.6
through OS X. On pre OS X systems, the Memory amount assigned to FileMaker
Pro 5.5 should be 24000K and no more. Assigning more may actually slow FMP
down! This is set be doing a "Get Info" on the application itself,
changing to "Memory" from "General Information" and
making the adjustments!
- Though FileMaker Pro 5.5 does not run
"native" on Intel-based Macs, it still runs well, especially
with many Macs having dual or quad core processors running at 2 GHz or
faster. We have minimal experience with Leopard but have no negative
episodes to report as of yet.
Windows
The Windows operating system works great with all our products. A Windows server
with our server software WILL work perfectly well with Macintosh-computer
workstations, either Power-PC or Intel processors!
- We only support Windows 98 SE,
Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems. We will not support
machines using Windows 95, 98 or ME. We have no experience with Vista.
- If employing our server software you must
use either Windows 2000 Professional, Windows 2000 Server, Windows NT or
Windows XP Professional. Any Windows operating system that can run
"services" can be used. The computer must have at least 512MB ram
and the hard drive MUST be 7200 RPM with an 8 Mb cache!
- If you are not using server software the host computer can use any of the above
mentioned systems.
The Newest features of PracticeMaker®5

even flow, tabbed interface and dynamic pick lists. All screens
are set for 800x600 resolution. A soon be released version will also support
1024x768 monitors.

- Print prescriptions to blank
paper! Up to five prescriptions can be printed on a half sheet of blank
paper!
- Unlimited diagnoses per
patient. We preloaded the system with nearly 8000 diagnoses! The diagnosis
database can store millions of records.
- Virtually unlimited patients
(we estimate about 2,800,000)!
- Store phone and "tickle
messages" which remind you of patient related events!
- Instant
ledger capabilities with active patient and family balances! Color
coding lets you quickly see any outstanding invoices!
- Each patient can have
unlimited
insurances (latest
screen shot)!
- Real-time
managed
care edits to monitor
co-payments, referrals and more!
- Built in word processing
creates instant referral letters. Macros make letter creation even
easier without the need for voice dictation add-ons! Many practices
are using the Letters Module as their "paperless medical record".
There is record locking to prevent accidental record alterations.
- Appointments and
recall are an active part of PracticeMaker®,
with a completely user definable recall system! Patients
have THREE independent recall dates which are searched during
every recall process!
- Completely customizable
patients lists, searching across a wide variety of patient
demographic and customized fields including ALL diagnoses!
- Prints
chart and
address labels using a
Dymo/Costar Label Writer. For those in the eye care business,
PracticeMaker® prints the patient's eyeglass
prescription and stores
your contact lens prescriptions and maintains inventory! An add-on feature
will automatically switch your default printer to the label writer and then
back to your standard printer (add $199).
- You can totally customize
PracticeMaker®'s superbill.
You can print the patient's balances, diagnoses,
expected co-payments, referring doctor's name and
much more! You can print out one superbill at a time or a
whole day's worth in one batch! In addition, you can serialize your
superbills for your internal audit trail and then associate this
superbill number with an invoice for even more security!
- Using a modem,
PracticeMaker® can dial
any phone in any of its databases
with Windows and an add-on feature. With Mac OSX, you can fax using the
built-in faxing feature of the OS.
- Stores reimbursements for each
procedure code of each insurance and does automatic line item
payment posting based on these store values.
- Allows
unlimited
charges, payments, adjustments and
multiple fee schedules
per invoice. Insurances can be linked to a specific fee schedule
as can each provider.
- Active
error checking at
each stage of data entry for...
- Facility to
Procedure mismatches!
- Diagnosis to
Procedure mismatch!
- Absent
NPI
when when you associate a referring doctor on the claim
- Absent inventory when you
try to sell a product!
- These and other edits
can be deactivated to customize your requirements!
- Automated billing functions
include...
- The
Quick
Invoice system
creates templates of grouped procedures. You can quickly add
any grouped procedures to any invoice with the click of
a button!
- Automatic assignment of a
claim to the next available insurance!
- Automatic
insurance claim reprocessing. Each time you
age
your accounts, outstanding insurance claims are examined and

claim is the same or greater than your preset allowable age for
that insurance carrier's claims (this is a real time
saver!)
- Automatic calculation of
expected payment for multiple surgical procedures!
- Automatic finance charge
assignment! You decide much how grace period to give before the
finance charge is applied!
- Active prompting of the user
for reassignment of a claim when a balance remains!

charges appearing of printed or electronic claims!
- Calculates sales tax as
needed and prints a report on the collection of sales tax using
user defined time periods!
- Calculate discounts
using the discount amount assigned to a patient. This can be
assigned on an invoice by invoice and/or
procedure by procedure basis (of course!).
- Active, real
time
inventory control for
products you sell! When you delete or change an inventory item
there is active
reprocessing of the
inventory amount! Only users with specific "access privileges"
alter inventory outside of normal billing!
- Print barcodes for inventory
stickers with all necessary fonts. A Dymo Labelwriter is used to print
labels.
- Batch
printing of insurance
claims is a breeze (latest
screen shot). Once a
claim is printed, or sent electronic, it is flagged with
the date, and each date sent is remembered in a scrolling
list!
- Important
and Critical functions are logged
in a separate database for you to review as an important "audit
trail" and to warn employees that what they do is monitored
(potentially can decrease employee theft). Logged functions
include, but are not limited to...
- deletion of incomplete
invoices
- inventory changes or
tampering
- recall mailings
- batch statement

* This training level requires
your office to have a broadband internet connection. For PCs we can connect
using NetMeeting or LogMeIn or GoToMyPC. For Macs we would use LogMeIn since
they do have a Macintosh Client (great product)! We can also connect with
Timbuktu or pcAnywhere.
** Electronic claims includes connection to
Medicare. Our commercial claim clearinghouse is iPlexus which is
located on the web at http://www.iplexus.net. There is a one time setup
and testing fee of $225 per provider and thereafter there are no per claim
charges for participating carriers. Iplexus charges $40 per month for unlimited
claim submission. However, you can use any clearinghouse that accepts the 4010A1
format.
*** Level 2 support is for
PracticeMaker® issues only. Support is not for hardware or other issues not
directly related to the normal functioning of PracticeMaker®. Hardware support
(printer, computer) is strictly between the user and the manufacturer of the hardware.
Level 2 technical
support does not include setting up your network either or resolving network
issues. This is strictly up to your network installer. This technical support
fee is for up to five workstations and includes all minor updates. Major updates
will be charged at 50% of the selling price. Note: We supply you with one copy
of either pcAnywhere or Timbuktu to allow remote control of your computer for
tech support and training).
**** If you do NOT purchase the
Letters and/or Appointments module, talk with us about discounting the support
fees.
