Scott R. Zeigen, M.D., medical director

My name is Scott Zeigen, M.D. I am a Board Certified Eye Physician and Surgeon (Ophthalmologist). I am on staff at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, and the Wills Eye Surgicenter in Warminster, PA where I do all of my surgical cases.

I am extremely experienced in small incision and suture-less cataract surgery. I was one of the first Ophthalmologists in the country to use foldable intraocular lens implants, now the defacto method of lens implanatation.

In addition to cataract surgery, I perform glaucoma surgery and laser procedures, as well as lid surgery to correct droopy lids.Though I was trained to do refractive surgery, I work closely with several other Ophthalmologists when patients desire laser refractive surgery because they are much more experienced than I and I want my patients to get the best results. I will, however, do your pre-operative examination and all post-operative care after your refractive surgery.

My educational training is as follows

• I graduated from Rutgers College in 1977 as a Henry Rutgers Scholar
• From 1977 to 1978 I took one year off from strict education to do biomedical research at Rutgers Medical School.
• In 1982 I graduated from Rutgers Medical School (now called Robert Wood Johnson Medical School-UMDNJ).
• I completed two years of Internal Medicine training at The Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1984.
• From 1984 to 1985 I did one year of General Medical practice treating hypertension, diabetes and other chronic medical conditions.
• I completed my three year Ophthalmology residency at Temple University Hospital in 1988 where I was Chief Resident as a senior resident.
• I became Board Certified in Ophthalmology in November 1989 by the American Board of Ophthalmology.
• I am a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (FAAO).
• I am a member of the following medical societies: Pennsylvania Medical Society, Pennsylvania Academy of Ophthalmology, Bucks County Medical Society.

All told, I have had nine years of graduate and postgraduate medical and surgical training. I repeatedly surpass the Continuing Medical Education requirements of both the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the American Medical Association. I routinely attend the Saturday morning Will Eye Institute lectures, and the two day Wills Eye Conference each March.
